Ultimate Scag V-Ride Zero-Turn Stand On Lawn Mower Buyers Guide
The Ultimate Scag V-Ride Buyers Guide was created to help aid you in purchasing your first V-Ride II or adding another to your lawn mower fleet.

We've sold a lot of Scag V-Rides over the years, we might know a thing or two about the process of picking and purchasing your first Scag V-Ride II stand on lawn mower to fit your landscaping needs!

V-Ride II: Unmatched Construction and Durability

Unlike their competition Scag Power Equipment produces it's own parts. Other zero turn mower "manufacturers" are merely assemblers who attach pieces that other business have produced for them together. Every single "Scag cats eye gold" component is made from scratch by Metalcraft of Mayville, Inc. right here in the USA.

V-Ride II : Superior Performance

There are many zero turn standing lawn mowers out there, but none of them can match the Scag V-Ride II. This is due to it's unrivaled performance, stability and durability. The Scag V-Ride has been around for a long time, and it's gone through multiple upgrades, updates and tweaks which have been to improve it's long term performance, durability and ease of use. Fun Fact: The Original Scag V-Ride could not accept an onboard bagger!

The Scag V-Ride II features the "envy of the landscaping industry" Velocity Plus Cutter deck: Even at faster ground speeds, this ground-breaking deck design produces a high-velocity discharge and a gorgeous manicured cut. Even better cutting performance with maximum clipping dispersion under any circumstances is provided by a redesigned cutting chamber and a sizable discharge opening.

V-Ride II: Productivity In a Compact Footprint

If you're running multiple fleets or just starting out the Scag V-Ride II is a great option due to it's compact footprint. The Scag V-Ride II takes up much less trailer space than traditional sit-down zero turn lawn mowers. This means that you can fit more mowers using less trailer space.  A huge advantage for those of you who own multiple fleets or units.

V-Ride II: On-board bagging system

Unlike much of it's so-called "competition" the Scag V-Ride II will accept an on-board spindle driven bagging system. This bagging system enables you to quickly and conveniently collect grass clippings and leaves, producing a picture-perfect, groomed lawn  This is a serious debris-catching system with a 6-inch discharge tube and a 7-bushel capacity.

V-Ride II: Which Size Deck and Engine Should I Get?

The Scag V-Ride II is produced in a large selection of different deck and engine specifications. The Scag V-Ride deck sizes vary from 32" all the way up to 61" giving you multiple choices to figure out which deck would be right for your current jobs.

V-Ride 32", 36", 42" (Small) - The small deck V-rides are a great choice if you have to drive your mower between tight spaces like fences, gates and trees, the smaller deck size allows you navigate tight terrain much easier.  It's also a great choice for people who have multiple smaller lawns to mow which are close. *Note: Bagger option is not available on the 32" and 36" deck options & I'd advise against putting a bagger on the 42" option due to power resource management*

V-Ride 48" 52" (Medium) -  Our most popular sizes and for a good reason: It's the best of both worlds. Small enough to take up minimal trailer space yet large enough to cut hefty amounts of grass quickly. The 48" and 52" Deck sizes are a great choice for an "all-in-one" landscaping solution.  If you are looking to use a bagger the 48" and 52" decks are probably your best choice. They are wide and powerful enough to handle all of your grass collection needs with ease.

V-Ride 61" (Large) - The largest deck size available on the Scag V-Ride II makes it a lawn mowing monster in terms of the sheer amount of grass you are able to cut in a set time. The 61" option is a great choice for those of you who need to mow large lawns and fields with a high quality cut.  The larger the deck size means more grass clippings. The 61" deck option will accept a bagger but it's important to realize it's smaller than traditional zero-turn baggers so you might find yourself emptying the bagger more often!

Scag V-Ride II Engine Options

The Scag V-Ride II is available in multiple engine options featuring 16 HP all the way to 40 HP. Along with engine choices by top quality manufacturers Kawasaki®, Kohler®, Briggs Vanguard™. They are also available in carburated and electronic fuel injection. Which one should you choose? Well unfortunately due to supply chain issues you might not have many choices on the engine brand, or if it's EFI or not. What you need to consider is what you will be using the V-Ride II for exactly and if you will need to use the optional bagger.

I could go on for hours about the pros and cons of each manufacturer but at the end of the day they are all solid choices. It really depends on which engines you are the most familiar with and how much power you will need.
