Most people know the distinct smell of mothballs. Mothballs can be used while store clothing and items which are susceptible to damage from mold or moth larvae. Mothballs product a pungent almost sweet odor which is overwhelming to insects and small animals.
Mothballs contain the key ingredient Naphthalene.Naphthalene is a white solid organic compound that is derived from the distillation of coal tar. This is what produces a pungent odor that scares mice and most rodents away. Modern Day Mothballs contain a mixture of Naphthalene, a chemical pesticide and deodorant (since it's smells so pungent!)
It's up to you! They do work but have been known to cause health risks, so be aware. Using mothballs as an animal repellent can also be illegal in some states. Check your local laws! If you want to take an alternative approach to removing a mouse or mice there are hundreds of options, you can start here.
