How To Plant Jonathan Green Black Beauty Grass Seed
PREPARE
Mow – Before seeding, mow the lawn at the lowest mower setting to enable the seed to enter the soil.Rake – Using a metal rake, rake over the current grass to loosen the soil by removing the thatch layer and any debris. Fill in holes and level the field with more topsoil.
Check the pH level of your soil – Get a soil test performed to determine the pH level of your soil. The ideal pH range for soil is 6.2 to 7.0. To quickly raise the pH of a lawn with a pH below 6.2, use Jonathan Green Mag-I-Cal® Plus for Lawns in Acidic & Hard Soil. If the pH of the soil is higher than 7.0, use Mag-I-Cal® Plus for Lawns in Alkaline & Hard Soil to quickly lower the pH.

When to plant – Between mid-August and mid-October, when the field is still warm and the nights are colder, is the best time to plant seed. When the soil temperature exceeds 55 degrees Fahrenheit and the air temperature remains reliably high, the next best time to plant is from mid-March to mid-May.
Spread seed – Using a rotary spreader, apply half of the seed in one direction (north to south) and the rest in the opposite direction (east to west). At this time, it's also a good idea to apply a new phosphorus-rich seeding fertilizer.

Jonathan Green Fast Grow Grass Seed is a fast-growing grass seed combination that may be used to fill in problematic spots in lawns or to produce a whole new lawn. Annual ryegrass is the quickest sprouting grass seed species in the Fast Grow seed mixture. Any Black Beauty® Grass Seed Mixture may be overseeded over Fast Grow lawns to develop a rich, gorgeous lawn that will last for years. This seed takes 7–10 days to germinate.
For the best results, follow the directions below for establishing a new lawn or overseeding an existing one.
